San francisco / ne varietatem timeamus

Finally I made it to SF to visit my friends Alexander and bobby
It looks like a place where I would definitely thrive - the climate, the way the city is organized etc. When becca told me that people in sf were even more laid back than those in Seattle I readily believed her. And I wasn't wrong of course, although SF managed to surprise me a bit with the slight pretentiousness (some might call it sophistication) of some of it's residents - something that I should have predicted. Somehow it managed to take me by surprise. Those who know me well know exactly what pretenciousness I am talking about;) but I guess this only proved that too much good is no good;) I leave this matter here.
SF has its charm, I think, in accommodating so many different people - from all the freaks, which are there in all big cities, to all the yuppies of the (now struggling) financial corporations. So there is place for everyone under SF's sun (or in it's fog) and no one seems to be bothered by the others. This is I guess true of every big city but SF seems to welcome everyone very open-mindedly. Or, at least this is what it looks like on the surface and what the image of the city is.
I will spend some more time here after my trip to arizona so I will definitely try to update this entry with more impressions and pictures.

Continuing my previous post here I should say that all of california is so diverse. From the beaches to the desert landscapes; from the laid back atmosphere in sf to the stress of LA. As I am writing this I am sitting on a train arriving in LA from San Diego and me and a 5-year old are the only people who are not talking on the phone. I hear a cacophony of conversations about everything from what is "important for the revenue" to "I heard you got some excitement last night" (I wonder what that might be). The train had to stop for 5 mins at red light and most people got very anxious and I could feel the tension growing. I didn't even hear a word from the passengers on that train from Seattle to SF that had to wait for 5 hrs in the middle of nowhere.
