Where I stayed
Not nearly as cool last night. Sadly though, and much to Andrew's chargrin the "goop" didn’t work either but we weren’t completely airless...only one more night on the blasted thing anyhow.
A lazier day planned today with a buffet breakfast start ($12pp...I am a bit over porridge)
We ended up on a 2 hr independent trail walk which we loved...lots of wildflowers and a lake to take in.
We had booked a one hour horse trail ride with a cook out dinner for the late afternoon so we got there in plenty of time. I was a bit nervous about it as I’ve only been on a horse once in my life which was about 33 years ago so can hardly even count. We were told that as there were so many of us our names would be our horses name. I was then introduced to Dopey! and Andrew’s horse was Peso!
The horse ride from the Roosevelt Lodge was fantastic as we took a trail north to a fantasic location where mountain meets plain. There were numerous chip moks and gophers popping out of holes in the ground along the train but this didnt seem to startle the horses too much.
The hardest thing was to stop the horses eating grass along the trial and dopey, true to his name went out of his way to munch the most appealing tufts og grass along the trail, even if it meant breaking formation and wandering a few feet off the trail.
The cook out was fantastic as we were served steak, beans, and salad while being entertained by a country and western singer and poet.We rode back to Roosevelt, past some longhorn deer and managed to visit calcite springs juts before dusk on the way back to Canyon Village.
