It's getting late so I'll be brief. Today was a very fun day starting with a scenic drive to the Negev in the south of the country - real desert - for a camel trek. We were glad we chose the one hour tour because that was enough for all of us, but it was beautiful country and a fun thing to do. Then we sat in the covered area and played backgammon while drinking herbal tea made from local herbs . The boys weren't too sure at first about riding a camel but once we got going they relaxed, and Adin even decided that we should buy a camel and ride it back to Vancouver.
Next stop was the Dead Sea for some floating in the water. We didn't bring a picnic today because we figured that whatever we bought would go bad in the heat, so there we were hungry and in the middle of nowhere. But fortunately along the Dead Sea there is a bunch of hotels and some shops where we were able to find a kosher lunch place that had plates of chicken and turkey with veggies and salads and everything we needed to keep us going for a while. The area was filled with Russians and other tourists, and it seemed very commercial and not what we were looking for, so we got back in the car and drove up to Ein Gedi.
After thinking we missed it, we found the oasis. The sun was getting ready to set, the sky was pink, the air had cooled down to a balmy 32 degrees and we were in heaven. Adin was convinced that he couldn't float so he didn't enjoy the water much, but Ezra had a great time and didn't want to get out. We even found some mud to put all over ourselves.
Then home to cook dinner, have showers and bed.
