Sousse or Susah, formerly Hadrumetum (Phoenician), Hadrumentum (Roman), Hunericopolis (Vandals), Justinianopolis (Byzantine) Susah (Aghlabids), Susa (Spanish) and Sousse from the time of the French protectorate, is the oldest city in the Western Mediterranean, having been founded by the Phoenicians about 10th or 9th centuries before Christ, what is to say before than Siracusa, Rome or Carthage existed.

Being the nearest city to our second hotel in Tunissia (port El Kantaoui), we went there three afternoons. However, all photos and videos preserved are from a journey to Mahdia we profited to make a stop near the port to see the Ribat and the lower part ot the Medina, having before visiting the Upper Town, where the mosque and Kashbah stands. The olf Medina of Sousse, all walled, is the greatest of Tunisia and it was declared World Heritage by the Unesco in 1986.

The Bazar spans nearly all the Medina and also is the largest in Tunisia. But is still more important to know that is the almost soley bazar where we felt more relaxed in Tunis, without being harassed by vendors or the boys contracted by them to visit their stores. Instead, you can watch and touch any objects of your interest and, when time to pay arrives, even here we get the best prices and discounts. This is not but the product of a very old tradition. René Desfontaines, visiting Tunis en 1784, wrote: «The inhabitants (of Suse) are very honest towards Christians, which undoubtedly comes from the practice that they have seeing and trading with them».

In contrast, we did not visited the largest Christian catacombs that have been preserved around the world, a very curious matter considering the site where lies, belonging to musulman world, two kilometers from the city.
