30 June 2004

Annie and i decided to be adventurous today and do the waters ports at the beach.....the para sailing? ( being trailed behind a boat while wearing a parachute) ...... Oh MY GOD!!!!!! It was madness!!

It cost €55 for both of us...not bad but not too good for the budget!..... We paid up, got strapped into our harnesses, had very brief instruction and apparently we were ready to go?????

The take off....or as i call it the drag off..... was ok...Annie and i talked away...her bum was half in the seat...mine was fully in....she decided to hang free, saying it was great so i decided from the comfort of my seat to drop also....WHAT A MISTAKE!! My arse ached!! I moaned the whole way round....Annie kept saying just look at the views.... I kept saying how can i when my arse is aching and i think I've broke my back??? and with no glasses i couldn't see much of the views!
We got dipped into the sea a few times, on the second time my Teva sandal ( you remember my smelly tevas?) fell off at the toe ( the instructor told me to take them off but i refused knowing how sore it was to walk out of the water without footwear..... stoney beach) Well Annie had to put her foot under my teva to keep it on in the air and then when he dipped us again we used to power of prayer to keep it on...... after my moaning about wanting to be on land again... i got my wish quite quickly....with a lovely belly flop i was in the water and struggling onto the beach again. I think its important to try new things in life...but this experience is never to be repeated again by me!!!

Ps Annie would do it again!

1 July 2004

Very Lazy day! Annie went to the beach all day to get those last rays before heading home to rainy Belfast, while i cooked and cleaned, how nothing changes!
Annie came back to the apartment and then we had our last meal and got ready to go to the airport. We walked to the bus stop, Annie with her baby elephant and me with all the stuff i was sending home. The bus came quickly costing €3.50 each way....the airport is appox 4 miles out of Nice centre..... We checked her in and then had some ice cream (finished together as we had started) and then said our goodbyes...we both shed a few tears and Annie headed off into the skies!

Beautifully planned, even if i must say so myself, Paddy's flight was due in (appox 1 hour wait) so i just had to fill my time reading the English magazines in the airport shop.... i kept waiting for someone to ask me if i thought i was in a library..... looked around the very unexciting airport and then went the gate for Paddys arrival....ahhhhhh at last my next traveller had arrived!! It was wonderful to see him again! After all the "oh my god look at the colour of you" Paddy to Sheila...... Sheila to Paddy " I love your trousers!" etc the hugs and kisses and catching up, we caught the bus back to Nice and walked to the apartment.

2 July 2004

After a chat i'd had with a nice Irish lady in the launderette we decided to go to the Mattisse Museum. We went for a walk about the town for Paddy to see about him..... along the sea front, through the market and around the town......then headed for the bus, a number 15 or 17 will take you up into the hills of Nice to the Museum. or the bargain price of €1.30. Once we reached the right stop we got off and followed the signs...its well sign posted..... You first walk into an Olive grove...which is beautiful!....then we walked up to the gardens at the top of the park...it had brilliant views over Nice.... and then went to find the Museum... t was right under our noses but we just didn't see it! eventually we paid in.... bargain of €4.. and went for a wonder....... Its a lovely place to walk around, it had areal relaxed feeling and some impressive pieces of art....particullary his "Blue Lady" which Paddy photographed me doing the pose....... we now have this thing about having to imitate artistic pieces.....Please God we dont come across any nudes!

Ater the Musuem we then sat in the Olive Grove park watching men play bowls and eating our picnic....BLISS!
A few hours later we got on the bus again and headed back into town, we got off a the train station to reserve our seats for train to Venice on Monday 5 July ....when our inter-rail ticket starts.....we adventurously decide on a sleeper....... how quick i forgot the sleeper from France to Spain!

We went for dinner....Chinese again .... walked along the sea front ....watching the street performers and amazed by the orange moon..... Beautiful evening!
