I really should be doing my Chinese homework right now.. but instead, I'm blogging! The first week of classes seemed so long sitting through it but looking back, it still feels like I've been here for such a long time now!

Everything has been going well so far.. even though I think 3-hour classes are a little rough. The Chinese class I am in is a breeze--I considered moving up a level but the homework load is so much! There is a dictation (character-writing quiz) every day, along with homework and essays. There were a couple nights last week where I spent 4 hours trying to learn the characters!

I've made some pretty fabulous friends here; it'll be a blast to spend an entire semester with them! I've also been invited to visit a friend's hometown in China during our fall break, so I'm definitely excited for that! This weekend, we did a scavenger hunt with the Alliance group. I got to see Shanghai's Old City God's Temple which was beautiful! I'll have to get around to uploading pictures soon! We also went to Shanghai's Urban City Planning Center, where we got to see a gigantic replica of the majority of the city and blueprints and models of an upcoming building that will surpass Shanghai's World Financial Center in height.

Some people from the 9th floor convinced me to go out with them on Friday night! It was a club/bar that had a 100 RMB cover (about $15 USD) for all you can drink shots and mixed drinks! Shots in China are smaller, about half the size of a regular shot! Mixed drinks are also smaller, but also so delicious! I definitely underestimated the alcohol content of the drinks I had.. let's just say, I was glad to get out of the taxi that brought us back to campus! I am perfectly content not going out every night, but I definitely think it was an experience to have under my belt! Most college students in China don't go out to bars and clubs, so there were a lot of foreigners.

It's Labor Day weekend and I know a lot of people are heading back to campus soon! I hope fall semester starts off great for everyone! Thinking about the State Fair, family barbecues, and birthdays make me miss home.. but I am so happy to be here too! My Chinese is improving drastically--the surprise in locals' faces when they realize I speak Chinese is so awesome!

Until next time, I love and miss everyone at home!
