After my volcano conquering I decided it was time to go explore the country because up till now I hadnt seen anything of guatemala except for antigua and guatemala city. So I decided to go to Flores where the Mayan Tikal ruins were but this would have been a 12 hour journey so to break this up I wanted to stay somewhere in between for a day or two. I looked on a map and found that Rio Dulce would be just such a place. I booked a bus and the next morning I was off for a 6 hour journey. The trip was fine (by now riding a bus is like walking to me) and I had a conversation with the dude next to me. With just 5 days of spanish lessons I was suprised how much we could communicate. Granted it was helped by a lot of serades and hand gestures but we did manage.

I arrived at night and because I didnt want to walk far I chose the nearest cheap hotel I could find. It was a hotel right on the water which was nice. The bunk bed I slept in however wasnt as great. It was just a piece of foam, maybe just 3 centremetres thick. However I was the only one in a 6 bed dorm, so after a little while of trying to get to sleep I decided to take all the matresses from all the beds and stack them together. Slept great. The next day I met 2 girls from Canada and they told me they were heading for Livingston the next day. Thinking I had no other plans I joined them and the next day we headed off by boat for a 2 hour trip to Livingston where I met 2 dutch girls who were heading there too. In Livingston we didnt really do much, just chilled, which was great cause I still needed to recover from my volcano climb. That night we all ate at the hostel and we all ordered the fish. Thats was we got. Literally a whole fish, head, eyeballs and fins still attached. Looked scary but tasted really good. The next morning I headed back by myself to go to Flores.
