After my wonderful 12 hour greyhound bus ride I finally arrived in Dallas at 6am. I had written the directions on my iPhone so I thought it would be a good idea to just start walking and figure it out as i go. I needed to get my bearings so I had the brilliant idea of checking the compass on my iPhone... Within 10 seconds of using it I was approached by a homeless dude and he apparently knew where to go. Because I hadn't slept in 24 hours I figured why not. Walking along I recognized the streets so I knew roughly that I was going the right way. When we got there I gave him $5 for the help and he tried to negotiate more but there was no way I was gonna pay him more.
When i arrived at the hostel, I rang the dude and he just told me to find a bunk and sort out the payment in the morning. When I got to there room there were 3 bunk beds. But 9 beds... 3 beds per bunk bed. So I had to try squeeze into this tiny space without making too much noise (a skill which I mastered by the end of my stay).
The next day I met up with brad stevens parents mark and Debbie and his grandparents and they took me to the JFK museum and memorial and then for lunch. After a month of 1 minute noodles and bread with peanut butter, I really appreciated a nice meal. After lunch I returned to the hostel where I went to the cinemas with some people from the hostel and the ticket cost $1.75.
The following day I went to a real western clothes shop which sold real cowboy hats, boots, shirts and belts which was cool and in the evening we went to see a rodeo. The rodeo was cool and showed me the real Texas style. After the rodeo we went To western style bar which was huge and had a beer there.
On the last day I managed to stay at the hyatt regency (5 star I believe) for free for one night which was a nice change from the 3 person bunk bed. Getting there was a bit of a mission though. I put in hyatt airport in my hostel and told me to take 2 different buses. When I got on the bus I talked to the bus driver and he said he had no idea of any hotel where I was going. At the transfer station I talked to him and another bus driver and they were really cool and interested where I was from and where I was going. Then I got onto the other bus with one of them and he drove off the route and dropped me off at the door of the hotel. After a little while I found out there were 7 different hyatts around the airport and had to take a cab but it was still a funny experience. Lesson: check which hotel to go to.
At the airport now going to dc where I have to take several subways and buses to get to my hostel so will see how I go.

Great story again Tim. Good to hear that you are doing well and experiencing the American way. Also nice of you to meet up with Mark and Debbie. I am sure that they also enjoyed seeing you.
PS. I hope you didn't buy one of those stupid hats for me.....
