We can't exactly say we are experts on Urumqi…Straight off the train at 3.30pm we wandered across the road to the park with our luggage, found ourselves a seat under a gazebo and sat there for about 4 hours chatting (pigeon Chinese, iphone translators and charades) to various people who were also waiting for trains. Probably the funniest thing was when a young lady typed something into her phone and it came back at me…"You look particularly ravishing today”. I take that as a compliment after having spent 25 hrs on a train and then 2 hours sitting in a park.

At 7.30pm we wandered back across the road, bought some bread, eggs, water and loo paper and then toddled through to the waiting lounge to get on our train to Yining. This was to be our last train ride in China…A quick calculation gave me 20+1+1+28+24+24+2+20+24+24+12 hours on trains in the last 8 weeks…180 hrs in total, costing about $1500 and I would need Google maps to find out how many KM’s…Yes I think we are experienced Chinese train travelers…J
