Tonight I have, for the first time in over 7 months, put dinner on the table for my husband. The feminists amongst you will be horrified at the pleasure that gave me, but I'm afraid to say that I'm not a feminist and for me it was great! The meal itself was not exactly gourmet - we couldn't get to a supermarket so the 'free food' at the hostel combined with what the local corner shop had to offer had to form the basis of the meal, so macaroni cheese with stir-fried cabbage alongside was what was dished up, but it was nice and I cooked it myself from scratch, and it was lovely to have a normal homely evening of eating home-cooked food and then sitting in the living room reading by the fire.
So that was all good. What was not so good was that the hire car we had booked and hoped to pick up as we arrived at the airport was not actually waiting for us and won't be available until tomorrow, which is why we're spending tonight at the Skyway Lodge round the corner from the airport, instead of being the 100 or so kms south of the city that we'd hoped to be.
Another thing, New Zealand is really cold! We'd prepared ourselves a little bit for this in Bali and Australia by buying jeans and long-sleeved t-shirts, but we've still been taken a bit by surprise by quite how cold it is, and I think we're going to have to take a deep breath and spend a bit more money on some warm clothes, or it's going to be a shivery month. Nevertheless, it is quite nice to be cold after so long of being too hot, so, cold but happy, we're looking forward to getting on our way. (R)

Cold
What's all this about the cold??! We have looked on the NZ weather service and it's 15 degrees, the equivalent of many days in a British summer! Anyhow, woolly jackets or not, you sound happy and that's all that matters. Love from Mummy, Daddy, and me (Chippy). xxx
