Auki is the capital of Malaita, the island to the north of Guadalcanal. It is a short hop by air or you can take the express boat. Using local air travel is a really good way to get around, though the schedule can change at very short notice. Planes are usually full so book ahead.
The roads vary according to season but there is not much traffic and you are not in a rush so it is fine. This was taken on the road to Airahu on Malaita
Auki is small but clean, the people are nice and the views are spectacular in a very quiet way.
Last visit we stayed at the Auki Lodge, my room was fine and the bed linen was clean etc, but one of my companions was not so lucky. I would stay there again but there was a new place being built by the best restaurant in town (name escapes me) that was on the waters edge a short walk over the town park/footy field/communal area. Has anyone stayed there? If so what was it like and what are the contact details?
If no one knows I will check it out in April and post details here.
