It was a miracle. I had a connection for a free hotel stay at the WYNDHAM NASSAU. See my review here: (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g147416-d147932-Reviews-Wyndham_Nassau_Resort_Crystal_Palace_Casino-Nassau_New_Providence_Island_Bahamas.html).

All I needed to do was get to Fort Lauderdale and then on to Nassau! I bought a ticket on Spirit Air out of FLL for $168. A total deal. Shortly thereafter, that same ticket increased to $300+....so much for gas prices.

Luckily, I was locked in. This promised to be the best travel deal of my life. Except perhaps since I went to London for a week all bills paid from my Employer! I went with co-worker and the hurricanes were not on the radar. All set!

The flight to FLL was uneventful and pleasant. Thanks again SWA :). I was awake now by the time we arrived in FLL. Spirit Air, however was more of a challenge. Our boarding passes looked like they came off a cash register and had a barcode at the bottom. There was a cluster at the gate and chaos was not far behind. Seems that there were no boarding announcements and all the tourists in flip flops...well here they come. NASSAU or BUST!
It was a total disaster. Luckily, in the stampede we made friends with a lovely lady named Sharon. She is a a native resident of the Bahamas and knew the ropes.

She offered to take us to our Hotel and we were so happy! She was awesome! We were alone in a strange place, but she welcomed us. This was our first touch of how welcoming the people of this island were. It was great.

The Wyndham was ok...well....for free. There was no nightlife and the pool bar shut down at PM...can u imagine? What the hell....Cindy and I were wanting to PARTY! We were off for a week and nothing to do but be wild. So much for that. LOL

We learned how to ride the Jitneys into town for $1 and found the local eateries at "Arawak Cay"...aka "fish fry" as its known by the locals. You can have some great seafood for under $12 there. You MUST try the CONCH ("KONK") Fritters! They are everywhere and are fantastic!

To be continued........
