Where I stayed
We waved goodbye to our cute cabin and the giant Redwoods and had a full day of driving to hit the Oregon Coast. We stayed in a gorgeous riverside hostel with a chilled, homely vibe. The town is called Seaside and to me, it could have been the set of an old school American movie about summer holidays. The streets were lined with old arcades, fast food joints and sovunier stores and they were absolutely brimming with vacationers from the nearby cities. It was here we discovered a shop that served up almost everything imaginable deep fried from Oreo cookies to pop tarts!
Tim and I also became hooked on an arcade game called Black Out - the room is full of machines with roughly 20 holes. You sit down and are given two balls - when you get your ball in a hole, it lights up. It is a face paced race to see who can get their ball into all the holes first. The game is overseen by a host, who calls out who is in the lead and who eventually wins. I took out the winning title three times - Tim was not so lucky - perhaps I have found my calling in life!
We also explored Seaside's trendier, quieter sister Cannon Beach, which was about a 20 minute drive away. Rumour has it that Bill Gates was staying nearby. We made the trip early because at low tide, you are able to access a waterfall on the beach and also explore some incredible rock pools. We spent hours walking this amazing beach - it was breathtaking.
