Hi everyone, so for some reason the Chinese censors stopped us from accessing our blog so have to fill you in on what we have been doing. After Beijing we got a very luxurious night train to Xi an. Because of the Chinese National Holiday everything was crazily busy (even by Chinese standards) and a little overwhelming! Xi an was hot and dusty with the compulsory Chinese dust/smog haze over the city that makes you feel like something has gone wrong with your eyes. We went to the Terracotta Warriors which was amazing but maybe if we dare say a little overrated! The photos you see make you think there are thousands of Warriors but really there arent. There were but after thousands of years and flood and fire they are a crumbling mess they basically stick them back together after digging them up. Still great to see but think you have to be an archeologist to appreciate it. Xi an is also one of the few Chinese cities with the old city walls still intact. We rode on bikes around the top, 14 km and it was quite nice, something that was really unexpected and interesting.

After a few days in Xi an we caught another train to Chengdu to see the Giant Panda. The train trip was 16 hours but over night so not too bad. As the holidays reached its peak so did the people and we actually waited 3 hours in Chengdu for a taxi!! It was just too overwhelming for us and of course Tim and I blamed each other and I ended up crying in the street! Crappy at the time but quite funny now. We stayed in an awesome hostel and basically hung around there for a few days changing our plans. We decided because of the holidays to fly out of China. The sightseeing places were so so busy, hotels were 30 percent more and it just wasnt relaxing. We decided to fly into Shenzen which is really close to Hong Kong and then have a few days there before looking for a cheap flight to Bangkok and on to some Thai beaches!

Once the plans were made we went to the Panda Research Facility. They were so adorable and cute! It was really nice to see them as if it wasnt for that centre basically the Pandas wouldnt exist anymore. After watching a video of 5 Chinese men wanking a panda inrto a cup Tim and I decided it wasnt natural and we should let the poor things become extinct as nature is intending. For some boring Panda facts to make our case. Pandas basically dont mate because they are too lazy and live alone in the forests, marking their scent and hardly ever coming in to contact with another Panda. Therefore they have sex about once a year. The bamboo they eat barely has enough nutrients to sustain them, which is why they dont move around. When the babies are born they are completely helpless, we saw a baby being born on the very educational video and the new mother didnt know what is was and was slapping it about all over the place. The scientist had to run in the cage and take it from its mother. Also the Pandas that are left in the wild only eat bamboo, every 25 years the bambbos flower and all die which generally means all the pandas starev. So is it any wonder they are in decline??

We are now in Hong Kong, booked in for 3 nights. We are off to one of the outlying islands tomorrow with no cars on it for some much needed peace and quiet!

Of course much more has happened than what I have written here. We have had some amazing meals, taxi rides that scared the shit out of us, met a few really nice people, dodged people spit and Tim almost got peed on by a child and I went to the Sichuan Opera which was quite interesting. We ate the hottest hot pot imaginable which numbed our tastebuds and got furious at the Chinese numerous times!!! All in all an really interesting trip in China, shorter than what we expected but would love to go back out of the holiday period and see all the amazing things we missed.

Will be thinking of you all tomorrow when we are eating fresh seafood at the beach!! xx

Hey you 2,
Tegan, you should write short stories or a book, as you are quite an entertaining writer, and very descriptive. In saying that, you have changed the way I think about pandas forever. I wonder how much the guys get paid for assisting in their procreation!!
Sounds like you are havng an interesting time and we are enjoying the pictures. We are looking forward to seeing you both and the others are looking forward to meeting Squirt.
Keep on posting.
Lots a Luv
Aunty Dianne and co.
