Where I stayed
On the hill above Songsong village
There is a reason nobody has heard of Rota. There is no tourism here at all! There isn't a lot of beach and most places the sea is hard to get in and out of. But it is beautiful and untouched for the most part. Very clean, no garbage on the side of the road or on the beach. We have only been in the water once and we pulled over on the side of the road and climbed down the Limestone Coral rock, we walked across the coral rock to the surf and waited a minute for the right wave and jumped in. To get out of the ocean we used the wave to push us up the rock and scoot out. The only big fish we saw was a Spotted Eagle Ray. They are pretty cool. Scotty said this is Whale season and he sees a few each year. So we watch every day for the big water clouds they spray into the air.
Last night we went to a swimming hole carved into the coral by the sea. We noticed all the rock around had TONS of fossils! The California plate is pushing on the bottom of this plate and litterly lifting the coral off the ocean floor This whole island is made up of ocean floor fossilized coral.
Scottys house is pretty cool, it is way up in the hills and over looks the SW point of the island. No worries about tsunami's at his house. (driving around there are signs that say "tsunami evacuation route ---> " ) He also said they usually get about two earthquaks around 5.0 a year here.
Scottys friend is bringing him a camera on Feb 11th. so we will get to snap some pictures off for a few days before we leave. Probably won't be updating much from hear I was totally wrong about good internet here LOL. Plus we don't have any pictures to load anyway... :(
