I love pai.... its a small town north-east of chiang mai, up in the hills with the perfect climate.
We caught the mini van from chiang mai at 8am, its was ment to be a 3hr van ride which turned out being a 5hr van ride as the driver spent a good 1and1/2hrs trying to find everyones hotels to pick them up.
Arriving Pai approx 1pm, as we got off the bus a thai lady that was on the mini van as well gave us her business card "come stay in my bungalows, only 150baht, for 2, per night" mm good deal we thought, so we sussed the town out a bit, got a motorbike and then went to find her bungalows, which were located in central pai (perfect).
As we walked in she recognized us and up she jumped, she was extrememly excited that we came! the bungalows were so cute! wee balcony, private bathroom and soooo cheap, just what we needed.
We spent the afternoon investigating on the motorbike, we drove out into the counrtyside to the hot springs and saw some elephants strolling along the road.
The coolest thing about pai was all the wee homemade bars on the side of the road, you just grabed a stool and they made you any cocktail you wanted, we spent most of the night on the side of the road at jikkos bar, he was a really nice guy...many cocktails later the bar shut up shop and we all went to a pub called ....(hmm will get back to you on that one) where they were having a Micheal Jackson tribute, cocktails sunk in and before you no it we were back at the bungalow ha.
Now being hungover and being in a mini van on the road from pai to chaing mai is not ontop of the list of things to do! i spent the whole time sitting with a plastic bag, trying very hard not to spew.
haha, i definately reccomend pai its an awesome wee town and really relaxed.
