Hi from humid Charleston! We had another great breakfast this morning at the 1837 Bed and Breakfast. Following breakfast we took a 90 minute bus tour to get the lay of the city.  Our guide gave us so much information, we were both a bit overwhelmed! Charleston has some beautiful old homes and buildings, but I have to say, I much prefer Savannah!

After the tour, we decided to go back to a few locations. First we walked down King Street to do some window shopping. Next we walked to the open air market. I really wanted to buy a sweetgrass basket until I saw how much they cost. Wow!  Too much for me!

From the market we stopped at a small cafe and had some lunch, then walked back to the B & B to get the car.  Danny had to see The Citadel up close so we went there first.  The campus is very cool.  All the buildings look like castles.  The barracks each have a courtyard with a red and white checkerboard painted on the ground.  We talked to a Cadet who told us a little about barracks life. We were able to walk up to the football stadium, but we couldn't get inside. Instead we walked the perimeter to peek inside.  Very nice campus.

After The Citadel, we drove to Patriot's Point to tour the USS Yorktown.  It's unbelievable how huge a carrier is until you see it up close and on board.  I have much more respect for Naval Seamen after seeing what there life is like aboard ship.  Everything is so compressed and small.  Definitely not for the claustrophobic!  We also toured a destroyer and a submarine.

What a long day of sightseeing! Now we resting a bit before walking up the street to a little pizza place we saw last night. Then we plan to spend the rest of the evening drinking cocktails and rocking in the chairs on our 3rd floor veranda.

Tomorrow we will spend the day in Myrtle Beach with Jake, Nate, and the Hays-Harrington clan.  It will be really nice to see the kids after a week away from home.
