We arrived in Salem, MA about 4:30 this afternoon. We are staying in Hawthorne Hotel which was built in 1923 and is on the National Historic Register. It's a beautiful place and considered the 4th most haunted hotel in America. We're hoping to experience the spectral woman who roams the floors! Too bad we didn't get room 325! There have been multiple accounts of lights going off and on, babies crying, and invisible hands touching the guests.

Once we checked in to our room we headed out to do a little exploring. We heard some great live music at Pickering Wharf and walked through the old cemetery. That place has to be haunted! I found the grave site of one of the original Mayflower pilgrims. What's even more amazing is that he died at age 84.

We ate dinner at a restaurant called Brothers Deli. When we walked in the place was full of middle school kids from California on a school trip. I felt quite at home! My Reuben panini was great. Danny was happy to get his first meal of New England seafood.

On our walk back to the hotel we took a shortcut through a residential street and just happened on a house where Nathaniel Hawthorne lived for over 30 years. There was a plaque in the house, but it looks like a private residence now.

Tomorrow we are looking forward to exploring some of the museums, the cemetery, and taking an evening ghost tour!
