We loaded up the camper and gassed it up before leaving LBL at 9:16 in the morning. Arrived in Branson MO at 4:15 and had everything all set up in a half an hour and had a beer.
Some thoughts along the way:
While listening to CW music to get in the mood we found two songs that we feel are naturals for Sharon to sing in her karoke nights with Patty. Faith Hill sings "Mississippi Girl" and She Daisy has one called "Don't Worry 'bout a Thing". In my minds eye, I could see and hear her having fun up at the club :-)
Craig Morgan gave me goose bumps singing "What I Love about Sundays". I guess I'm just a sentimental fool.
The town of Wickliffe doesn't allow jake brakes.
There is a 2 lane bridge in Cairo across the mighty Mississippi River that we had to cross. It had two bends in it and absolutely no shoulders. Someone constructed the thing with steel and concrete sides. As if this weren't enough, there were big rigs coming the other way using up every bit of their part of the road. Since the lane is 9 ft wide and our RV is 8 ft wide John had 6 inches of leeway. Needless to say we held our breath the whole way across.
MO has roads named with letters instead of numbers. We say the sign
Jct
J/JJ
For a snack I rolled down a partial bag of pretzels and said "some smart old German taught me that" We both smiled. (for those non Staabs reading this my Dad used to do this to his pretzel bags while he and Mom were watching tv. It was a self made serving bowl.) We both smiled.
There were lots of dead armadillos on the road. Pappy would be glad to see some dead ones. At least they weren't ruining someone's landscaping.
Some of the roads were redtop instead of blacktop.
We saw lots of old cars and a red or orange and white Starski and Hutch 66 Ford torino.
