Antelope Island, Salt Lake City UT

It's a beautiful morning as we leave this unique island campground. What a mixed blessing this place is. Beautiful but largely unusable. We arrived yesterday in the heat of the day and retreated to the safety of the RV to avoid the flies. We later learned that they are called Brine flies and are harmless to humans but still, hundreds of flies would drive any self respecting human indoors. Right before sunset we walked down to the waters edge past sand dunes and 1/4 to 1/2 mile of salt flats only to find piles of dead smelly brine shrimp - the only thing that lives in Great Salt Lake and billions upon billions of brine flies. Thank Goodness they didn't bother us - just fled in waves as we walked to the waters edge. The water was perfectly still reflecting the clouds and distant mountains. The only sound was a distant bird calling. Of course I got my feet wet but couldn't bring myself to do the famous float in the smelly water.
