Yesterday after lunch at the restraunt we were picked up by Viet, his adopted daughter Yeng and their extended family on mopeds... after we had loaded on our massive packs and jumped on the back we undertook an exciting ride through the town to the outskirts of Can Tho to Viet's Guest House where we were being hosted for the night.
The lovely gueast house, made completely of bamboo walls and thatched roofing sits right on the banks of the Mekong Delta where it stands out amongst the dingy houses surrounding it. It is somewhat of a palace actually compared to its surroundings. We were welcomed with food and hammocks and friendly faces.
Tom and Jack were immediately put on bicycles, but with Tom not being able to touch both the pedals and sit on the seat, weaved a very windy path that resulted in him knocking over a lilttle old lady's bike and gear before departing with tail between legs. That afternoon Jess rested (she has been very sick lately and Rusty is coming down with something too) while we (Rusty Tibby Jack Tom) hit up the Mekong Delta on a small motor boat with our hosts.
We were taken up a lot of different little tributaries that took us in along canals lined with small houses and that backed on to magnificent rice fields. Rusty and our host and guide Viet were sat down for some local rice wine. The man welcoming from the shore had obviously been testing its quality for a few hours and was most welcoming to the intruders.
Our day ended with a magnificent dinner of Vietnamese fare and then a Karaoke voice box was brought out for us to have a go on. Even Tom and Jack had a go!!! A great sleep in what was a beautifully kept guest house
The next morning we had a sleep in and started the day off with a leisurely breakfast on the banks of the Mekong Delta. We then boated it back to Can Tho wher we joined up with the rest of the tour group. The bus then took us to Ho Chi Mihn city where we would be staying for two nights.
