From Mycenae we followed a three-hour long road of stomach-juggling twists, turns, ups, and downs through the mountains of Arcadia. The stunning beauty of our destination, the small village of Andritsena (ann-DRIT-say-nah), defies description. Tucked among the rolling mountains turning muted yellow with the autumn leaves, populated with little stone houses with terra cotta roofs, the smell of wood fires in the air... Andritsena is a feast of romance. The perfect place for a honeymoon or anniversary getaway. The perfect place for a Bear.

It's such a tiny place that they didn't have a hotel big enough to accommodate us all, so seven of us stayed in a three-bedroom bed and breakfast house, while the rest stayed in a lodge up the road that had fireplaces in each den-like room and showers with eight jets of water.

We didn't have nearly enough time in Andritsena. By the time we got to check into our B & B and learned how to find the other hotel, the sun was already going down, and we were scheduled to leave for our next pile of rocks early the next morning. That night, I enjoyed the best sleep I've had in two months. The bed was fluffy and comfortable under a ceiling of exposed wood beams. It was completely dark and perfectly silent, and the air was sweet and clean. I went to bed hours before I actually fell asleep just to enjoy the feeling.

Papia, Beach Babe, and I vowed to get up two hours early the next morning to see the sunrise and snap all the pictures we didn't have time to get the night before. Unfortunately, we didn't know there would be a power outage across the entire village, so we woke to pitch dark and ice cold showers! I dressed by the light of my battery-powered alarm clock, and we left our B & B with our cameras just as the first pink of the sun was coming over the mountains.

Andritsena! When will I ever be able to drink you in again?
