The route to our next site, Tylissos (till-ISS-ohs), was a gorgeous drive up through the vineyards of Cretan hill country. This is the first location where the surrounding scenery was so beautiful it was difficult to train our eyes on the ancient rocks. Tylissos was not another Minoan palace, it was a residential and administrative "villa" with two houses and a storage building built during the Minoan III period. Archaeologists found Linear A tablets here, a pre-Greek language that has yet to be decoded.
