We walked up to the monument for the tragic Estonia shipping accident. It is hard to understand for people who don't live in Estonia, but almost everybody knows somebody who died or who had family on that ferry.
Tagaranna has a lot to offer : wonderful beaches, nice cliffs (Ninase Pank), large forests and some strange windmills like the Old Man and Old Woman (the woman got burned down recently). Piret went back to Kuressaare with our luggage (we would spend the night at her uncle's) and Claudia and I took our time to walk in the forests.
When we were almost back to our starting point, we realised that I had lost the Estonia Map. A really good map by the way. So I ran back for about 4 kms till I found it where we thought I had left it, and then we got an sms from Piret saying that the accommodation at her aunt's wouldn't work out, but that we could camp in her grandmother's garden.
We took a bus, drove back to Kuressaare, ate in an Italian restaurant (La Perla) and then walked to the Grandmother's home.
Grandma didn't speak English but she knew some German words and we communicated in a mixture of German, Estonian and hand signals. She called Piret to ask to translate for us, and it turned out that we didn't have to sleep in the garden, but we could sleep on the sofa. Estonian hospitality is just wonderful.
