We arrived in Melbourne fine, and after deciding to declare some tea and wooden souvenirs we had brought with us we were subjected to a full bag search which lasted a little under 2 hours .....fun. We were meeting my auntie and uncle (mums side) in Melbourne, and decided to surprise them (had their address) so we took a bus and a taxi and surprise them we did :)
So our main aim so far has been to obtain a Chinese visa..... not easy! the rules currently stand that you are required to prove flights (can do this), you are required to provide an itinerary for the nights you are staying in china (can do this with some hotel bookings....a little annoying as it limits freedom..... and booking up 30 nights accommodation is not to much fun......although we could prob get around this by making reservations and canceling them as soon as we receive the visa) The stinger being...... as the rules are getting more and more strict on the lead up to the Olympics they are now telling us that the only way to obtain a Chinese visa in Australia is to hold an Australian visa!!
So our only hope, and what we are looking into now is to post our passports to the Chinese embassy in London! Not ideal....but worth a shot maybe as we would really like to visit China. Will see what happens with this and keep you updated :)
Anywayz... we have spent a few days at my Auntie and Uncles house and it has been loverly...... Home cooking you cant beat, the best food i have had in a while, lasagna, fish, bacon and eggs for breakkie :) and a Shepard's pie tonight yum!
We have met my cousin Steve and his family, which was nice and look forward to spending more time with them on the weekend possibly, I'm also really looking forward to meeting my cousin rob and his girlfriend..... will have some photos of oz soon in my next blog.
We have also just bought a bus ticket that allows us to jump on and off the bus all the way to Cairns...and a bus to Adelaide which we will be taking next week to meet my auntie uncle and cousin (dads side)...this i am also really looking forward to :)
Other than that i have just finished a couple more books...
The first "The girl with the dragon tattoo" Very good read.... up until then i had been sticking strictly to fiction titles and for some reason had it in my head that i wouldn't enjoy any non -fiction.... well i did and this book was it. A gripping crime thriller with twists n turns and all the rest, very enjoyable and highly recommended!
The second: "The bus driver who wanted to be god" A collection of short stories some very vulgar and disturbing... an ok read, not the best.
I also plan on writing a little bit about my views on the countries we have visited so far...but not now, I'm hungry and there is a Shepard's pie in the oven :) Thanks Auntie Jan :)
