Ho K,

Soo we made it across the pass eventually, after a bit of trouble due to lots of snow and a winding pass across the border...we made it :)

We stayed in a hostel called La Casa Roja the best hostel i have stayed in so far!  Its an old manor house so there is about four living rooms, an amazing kitchen which we utilised as much as possible, and a lovely TV room for movie time, of which there was a lot.  The good thing about the hostel is the fact that you can find a quiet corner and read your book, or if you want to socialize there are plenty of people to chat to..... or just veg out to a movie.
Anyways, the pass was fine and so was our arrival into Santiago Chile!

We completed another wine tour, this time at a winery called concha y toro, it was not as good as some of the other wineries we have visited, simply because of the size, giving you a less personal tour and tasting session, but i think that was just down to my personal preference of the smaller family run type wineries.  But all the same we tasted four different wines, and one of the wines they produce is one that i drink at home called "casillero del diablo" you may have had some yourself or seen it in the shops..... it has italic writing and the D is large and red.  It literally translates to "the devils cellar", the story being that back in the day when the wine was first produced local villages would steal wine from the owners cellar, to combat this he invented a myth that the devil lived in the cellar and from that point forward no one ever stole his wine for fear of the consequences ooooohohohoho!

On the nights at the hostel we drank at their bar.... a kind of mud / straw hut out the back but nice and warm and a gang of about 12 peeps we had met up with played a game called mafia (kind of like murder in the dark type game) it sounds lame but all soon became addicted and played it most nights!

Another highlight of Chile are its coffee bars, you see them dotted around the city so me Zo and a couple of lads decided to try one out..... they are open throughout the day so just after lunch we popped in one.  The outside is all blacked out and there are usually some red flashing lights, when you enter you are greeted by girls in bikinis or thongs and a bra and a club like atmosphere..... there are no seats (prob to stop lingering pervs) and you basically drink coffee and chat to the half naked girls..... very strange atmosphere for 2:00 in the afternoon, but still an interesting activity.

We went to the local zoo.... kind of wish we didn't because some of the animals were pacing and looking depressed especially this white tiger and her three cubs plus as it was sat it was super busy on the metro and in the zoo.

One of the most interesting things we decided to check out was an art exhibition that is currently touring cities worldwide showing the human body.  Basically they have taken real human bodies (i have heard on the grape vine that the bodies are from prisoners that have passed on)  and they have dissected these bodies in every dimension possible..... these are then put into glass boxes or coated in a special fluid to stop the bodies from decomposing!  For example there was a head cut into slices from the top down along with a head cut into slices from the front back.  There were also bodies with different sections stripped away revealing muscles and organs for example.  I found the whole display very interesting...almost creepy, but it is funny how quickly you get over your uneasiness after seeing three or four cut up and frozen body parts!!!  The thing that made me cringe the most was nose hair and teeth that were still attached to the bodies.  The most interesting segment of the whole piece was fetus's through different stages of growth showing all of the features of a human at such an early stage.

Other than that our remaining time in Chile was pent chatting, drinking and playing mafia!

We then headed for the airport..... destination Australia!
