Green Turtle (where else)

I haven't slept much, excuse me for my ramblings as ever.

I spent last weekend at Green Turtle, words can't express how much I love that place.

I thought I'd do some kind of collated sketch of a typical weekend at the place.

Ode to Joy/Green Turtle
The 'road' towards Green Turtle is...comic. It's possibly the worst one in the world, certainly in Ghana. Ok, I exagerate a bit but it's pretty terrible. The tro towards the lodge gets comically overloaded, generally around 19-20 people (there are 12 seats) plus assorted chickens, dogs and other paraphenalia.

The place itself is pretty much everything a backpacker could wish for. It's cheap (660ml beer costs a quid.) It's idyllic. And most of all, the people are just amazing.

Groups of surgeons (all consultants bar two registrars) working for free in Takoradi to teach the hospital new procedures).
People setting up their own NGOs.
People who have spent most of their adult lives travelling.
South African Boer miners (ok, not amazing, but more comedy).

And that's all just this weekend.

The other week, I could see the Milky Way like it looks in the childrens' books. Astonishing moment in my life.

Basically, guaranteed good times all around.

I might write a poem about it next time, if not my weekend blogs may get a bit repetitive!
