Where I stayed
Some shack by the river
So after our last blog we decided to go to a party at the reggae bar in Don Det for the Queens Day. It was pretty dry, not that many people and no one was really into it, also the music was anything but reggae mostly Black Eyed Peas. We got up in the morning at around 8.30 and decided to bust a move on down to the kayak tours. When we finally got started and in the water, Sam and I where both in single kayaks whilst the others shared doubles. Our tour guide did not speak good English at all but was still really enjoyable to lead and try talk to. We kayaked a bit down the river under we crossed over to Don Phen and went to see another temple where they were preparing for a party the next day, (tried to find out what party was about but to much of a language barrier). From the temple we walked over to the first set of waterfalls which were defiantly a lot larger than they appeared in the pictures we’d seen before. Later we continued down to just after the falls to start kayaking again, to the supposed grade 3 rapids which composed of two very small sets of rapids, very disappointing. As we kayaked down the river (which was huge, more and more streams kept joining and parting from the main one) we all kept jumping into the water, the sun was starting to get to us, we had been in the sun for about 4 hours now. Finally we came to on old port and stopped there for lunch which was again surprisingly good, large serving of chicken and rice and beautifully cold drinks. Full and refreshed we headed back on down the river for about half an hour until we came across the fresh water dolphins (now in Cambodian waters). Saw quite a few about 50-100m from us. We then went to a small Island in the middle of the river for a rest as we were getting really tired by now. We all swam for half and hour then kayaked down the last hour of the river to where a small truck was waiting to take us and our kayaks to the see the large waterfalls on the border of Cambodia. These waterfalls were a lot larger and more impressive (the biggest waterfall in South east Asia). We had some ice cream then got back into the truck, drove back to the river and caught a ride on a slow boat back to Don Det. Both got sunburnt.
We went to the Aussie Baker cause Sam was having withdrawals but to his disappointment we missed him by no more than a minute. We had dinner then had a really early night cause we were tired after our 15km kayak. Sam got up at 7:30 this morning and went to the baker. We have packed up and are leaving in an hour to go back to Bangkok where we will catch a bus to Krabi, to Beach, Sun and more adventures. Until next time.
Keep it gangster
