This was our second visit to Santorini in less than a week. Unlike last week when there was only one other smaller cruise ship anchored, today there were 4 others.  One was a Royal Caribbean ship with 2100 passengers; probably 5,000 cruisers invading an island of 18,000 permanent residents

We took the Regent bus up to the postcard-perfect village of Oia.  It's so beautiful there!  We walked through a different area than before lined with many beautiful homes, small hotels and restaurants.  We walked around, did a little shopping and stopped to have a drink while taking in the marvelous views.

Our bus then took us to Fira, the capital of Santorini, where we were on our own.  First, we had lunch in a restaurant overlooking the bay.  And, then more shopping.

Fira is built on a steep cliff.  The only ways to get down to the harbor and boat tender are to ride a donkey, walk or take a cable car.  Last week we just walked up to the cable car and got on.  But, with five cruise ships touring the island, the line for the cable car down to the boat tenders was very long so we decided to go ahead and go down early.    We could see people riding the donkeys up to Fira from the harbor.  Think I’ll stick with taking the cable car down.

Today was a very nice day.  It wasn’t as crowded as we thought it might be.  Our guide said in the summer there might be 10 cruise ships anchored on any particular day.  It would be very crowded for sure then.

Athens, Greece tomorrow.
