I'm not exactly sure why we stopped here but we did so we tried to make the best of it. Sihanouville is a province in southern Cambodia on the Gulf of Thailand. It is located 115 miles southwest of the capital, Phnom Penh. Sihanoukville was the place of the last official battle of the US Army in the Vietnam War.
So, our excursion included touring a small local village. We went into the school. The children were delightful. They loved having their picture taken, especially when we would show it to them. They were always waving and generally, very curious about us. They could speak some English. There are two sessions for school – one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The children do wear uniforms to school. I had about 30 bags of the snack size M&M’s with me so I gave them to the teacher for the children. There is also a pagoda in the village. We spent more than an hour here just visiting and walking around. We then went to a local market for about 40 minutes.
We then went to a 5 star resort for a light lunch. The beach was very pretty. After we left the resort, we headed back to the boat. On the way, the bus went by an area where there were wild monkeys just on the side of the road. I wouldn’t exactly say they were wild, though. There were motorcycles going by but it didn’t phase them.
That was the extent of our day in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.
