Today is a sea day on our journey north to the port of Townsville. It's definitively getting warmer with each passing day.  We are due to arrive late Sunday morning and plan to try the Sunday caviar brunch before heading into town.  "Summer" is here!

It was a fun day on the ship today.  We got up early (we set our clocks back another hour so woke up early) and got our walking in.  I then went to the gym, did the elliptical and took an aerobics class.  Wayne went to an enrichment lecture on Cairns, our stop on Monday.  This segment of the World Cruise has a food and wine theme.  We attended a cooking demonstration by a guest executive chef, Owen Andrews. He is from the Barossa Valley in Australia.  He made two dishes and, best of all, we got to sample both.  Chef Andrews will be doing another cooking demonstration in a few days.  He will also feature several entries in the Compass Rose (our main dining room) one night.

This afternoon, there was a wine tasting, hosted by John Geber, owner of what is currently the second highest rated winery in all of Australia, Chateau Tanunda (Barossa Valley).  Out of 7,000 entries at the 2010 London International Wine & Spirit Competition, Chateau Tanunda won the top entry for two wines.  The Barossa Valley, near Adelaide, is acknowledged as the home of Australia’s best wine.  We were able to sample three whites and three reds.  Very tasty and with the medicinal value of aiding Wayne’s nap (as if he needed any help).  John will be doing another wine tasting in a few days, also.

Needless to say, both of these events were well attended!

Just before dinner, we attended a cocktail reception with Jim Nantz.  He spent about an hour answering questions.  He has so many stories to tell and uses a lot of passion to tell them.  His recall of dates is amazing, too.  He’s a great speaker.  Everyone enjoyed listening to him.  He will be heading back to the States tomorrow.

We had dinner tonight with Nate Randall, one of the guest culinary speakers.  Good food and conversation.  Wayne says the steaks in the Compass Rose are the best he has ever had, better so far than Prime 7, the specialty steak restaurant.  After dinner we attended the evening show where a concert violinist performed…not really our cup of tea but it was entertaining.

The only photo included today is from our first “Formal Optional” night.  There were a few men with tux’s but not many.  I didn’t see any long dresses but there may have been a few.  Normally, the dress for the evening is “Elegant Casual”, something that you would wear to a nice restaurant.

LOVE that dress Karen (& your suit too Wayne)! I would have really enjoyed the wine tasting! Bring summer back here!

Karen, you look beautiful! Love the dress. Wayne, you're looking mighty fine these days. The walking must be agreeing with you as you are looking thinner!
