We asked about some markets but the locals pointed us to a food market instead. That was an eye opener! We have already experienced that anything is for eating here in China but here we saw it all alive before the plate, Turtles, Chickens, Ducks, Fish, Crabs, Snakes......if ya wanted it we could have had it but to the amusement of the locals we turned it down. Our second day in Nanning was a good day/night event. We had to get some coin out so tried the travelers cheques method of attack. Again it took forever to do. What should be a simple takes of here's your coin sir turns into what feels like a criminal investigation for about 40 minutes or so, they didn't even wish us a happy new years, but ya gets that eh. After that we found the best way to pass time ever, we went around several malls trying the new Massage chairs, so good, and ya just don't get tired of these things. The chairs give ya about 20 mins of massage a time so we tried a few malls to make sure we got the full appreciation of them, we would recommend them to all!!!!! After a hard days work we went for a wonder around to watch the fireworks going off all over town, being Chinese new years eve and all it was promising to be a good night, and it didn't disappoint.
We found a cool little spot on the corner of a street food market and sat down for a beer,
which happened to end up being a few before the locals got trollied and all wanted to join us. The first couple we met were wasted, so funny, spoke no English so the Bible was used again. They were good value, I think they were trying to pick us up and get some swapping action going but all good, then the bloke threw up all over the ground at the table and splattered Nae, super funny. The Chinese really can't handle their piss, (this bloke made me think of the bloke who tried to drink you under the table Paul!!).
After those cats had finished there night we met another couple of lads and got on it with them, using drawings, broken chinglish and the "bible" to have some ok conversations. Our quiet walk had turned into a 5 am get home to pass out. What a way to bring in the lunar new year.
Next day was a lost cause, we were so hungover we just functioned on auto pilot till our train left for Guangzhou at 5. We managed to grab some lunch that filled us up for about an hour, then bought some infamous street meat to find out that it was dog!!! It was pretty good, even though Nae felt a little queasy after the thought.
Nanning is a cool place but mainly another city. Will be good to get to Macau in the morning.
Arrived in Nanning mid afternoon and with the help of some wicked locals found our way from the outskirts to the centre of town and a sweet as place to stay.
