On Thursday we headed back to Neiafu determined to retain our title as pub quiz champs. Sadly it wasn't to be but we did team up with a Polish Canadian called Jacob and an Irish jewellery designer called Jenny – both friends of Matt’s.  They were great team mates and even better, Jacob invited us out to spend the following afternoon (also my birthday) entering the local harbour race on his yatch.

On Friday, I woke to Mark handing me a birthday card and pressie (a pair of boat shoes, I’d seen at the local shop).  We headed next door to Café Tropicana for a full English breakfast complete with hash brown – yummy!  After I had stuffed my face and washed it down with a banana milkshake satisfied that I wouldn’t need to eat for about another week, I was surprised by Lisa the owner carrying out a birthday cake complete with candle.  Matt from Tonga Bob’s was there and him, Lisa and Mark all delighted in embarrassing me by singing as loudly as possible.

At four o’clock we bagged a lift down to the harbour with Matt and there met up with Jacob, Jenny and four other ex-pats and headed for the yatch.  The boat was beautiful and though we didn’t even finish the race, we had a fab time chatting, drinking beer and eating the remainder of my birthday cake.  Then it was back to Mango bar next to the harbour for more drinking and the prize giving.  Despite not finishing, our team still won a $20 voucher for Café Tropicana which Jacob kindly donated to me as a birthday present. { It was put to good use buying bacon butties to soak up the post bday hangover! (MK) }  Matt went up and made a speech about how the race was fixed and announced to everyone that it was my birthday (he seemed intent on telling the whole of Tonga having mentioned it during the quiz at the bar the previous night also!).  Then it was off to Tonga Bob’s for yet more beer, shots of tequila and me being told I was judging the dancing competition taking place!

Needless to say another very drunken, late night but certainly a birthday I won’t forget in a hurry.
