We finally made it to Mackinaw Island. Kelly and I have wanted to visit there ever since her sister, Robin, told us about it a few years ago. Robin and her Mom have been going there for a Republican convention for several years.

We got up this morning, dropped Riley off at a kennel, and headed to the ferry. We really enjoyed Mackinaw. We've been to Martha's Vineyard, Kennebunk, Chitauqua and Mackinaw was definitely one of our favorites. It was similar to Martha's Vineyard, but less pretentious. It was nice not haveing any cars on the island, but the smell of horses  could sometimes blind-side you. We rented tandem bikes for a couple of hours and rode around the island. The weather couldn't have been any nicer. It was actually a little chilly. There was no shortage of 'fudge' and 'ice cream' shops. We stayed for most of the day and cmae back on the 5pm ferry.

On the ferry back, the boys started talking to another boy, Robert, who was autistic. I told the boys I think God sends 'special needs' kids across their path because they play so well with them. I always think about people's concern that homeschooled kids are not socialized. The boys treat all kids the same, as if there is no special need. They found out Robert and his family were staying at the same park we were and they made plans to meet at the basketball court. Keegan and Collin got there first and, unfortunately, Collin lost his temper with Keegan and had to go home early. Keegan and I got to play with some other kids and Robert was on our team. We spent most of the time throwing the ball to Robert and the other team was great about letting him score. Keegan was a little dissappointed that all of the attention was on Robert, but he was a champ about it. He didn't say anything to me until we were walking home. They don't get any better.
