Today was my 40th birthday. When I woke up and walked out of the bedroom this morning, Kelly and the boys had decorated everything with "Happy Birthday" signs. I opened my 'country western' themed birthday presents and found a shirt, jeans, cowboy hat and 4 tickets to a Tim McGraw & Faith Hill concert. I just need to find 3 friends to take;) The boys and I have memorized several of Tim McGraw's songs, so it should be a lot of fun.

After opening presents, we went to breakfast at the 'Pig-N-Pancake' in Astoria, OR. We continued north over the Columbia, into the state of WA,  after breakfast to the 'Lewis and Clark' Interpretive Center at 'Cape Disappointment.' It is fascinating to learn all that the 2 explorers endured before reaching that particular point at the Mouth of the mighty Columbia River. President Jefferson's' instructions for the men were simple: "Mission, the Pacific Ocean." We learned so much about the 'battery' at Cape Disappointment and the spot where more than 2,000 recorded shipwrecks took place. On the way home we also made a stop at the Fort Columbia Batter. You could never truly appreciate all that took place in this area by reading a text book.

We came back to the RV briefly this afternoon to let Riley out and let the boys play with some friends. This evening we drove back to Astoria's little historic downtown for dinner. Kelly and the boys wanted take me somewhere nice for my birthday. We went to the "Silver Salmon" for dinner. Can you guess what I had. I've had some of the best local King Salmon in Oregon. Dinner was great and I'm incredibly grateful to be blessed with such an amazing family and great friends at 40 years YOUNG;)
