On to our next state park. We had about a 3 hour drive north to our next park, so it worked out great to stop about half way for a planned field trip at the 'Tillamook Cheese Factory.' We got an inside look at the entire process from how they age the cheddar for sharpness to coloring to packaging. It's a large plant that makes several different cheeses, butter and ice cream. We've tasted the entire product line(starting with the ice cream) and it's all delicious.

Kelly did schoolwork with the boys along the way, Unfortunately, it rained pretty much the entire drive, but we made it safely. We are now in 'Lewis and Clark' territory. Ever since we saw an IMAX movie about the explorers a few years ago we've been big fans. Kelly's been reading their biography to the boys in preparation for this part of the country.

Fort Stevens state park is the prettiest park we've seen along the way and we learned it's the largest state park in the country. Once we got set up and the rain stopped, we rode our bikes to the beach and saw what's left of a shipwreck that dates back to the late 1800's. We also saw the original 'Fort Stevens Battery' still in tack. We visited one other battery in Puerto Rico a few years ago. It's amazing how you can sense the history when you're there. It's as if the fighting just stopped yesterday. Sure beats a text book:) - Chris
