After a pretty uneventful drive through Texas, we visited one of the most incredible places you will ever see. We've heard much about the caverns in Carlsbad and it was even more impressive than we thought.(at first I thought Kelly said we were going to the 'Carlsbad Taverns' and I was pretty excited) But when I learned it was actually the Caverns and this was the place where they filmed the original "Journey To The Center Of The Earth" with Pat Boone, I was amazed. You can't even imagine what it was like to go down 800 feet beneath the surface of the earth and see what could only be described as something like 'the lost city of atlantis.'(see pic's)

Our tour guide asked Keegan and Collin to help him identify some of the formations in the huge caverns.(see pic) The boys have the movie 'The Journey To The Center of The Earth' which made the experience even more memorable. It was hard to believe this guy Jim White, a cowboy from Texas, ventured into these caves with nothing but a candle light back in the 20's. We also learned that at certain times of the year you can watch 500,000 bats fly out of the openings every evening. If you ever get the chance to visit these caverns, don't pass it up.

We were planning to stay the night in Carlbad, but other than the caverns, there was really nothing else to see. The town was almost depressing. So we moved on to Rowswell, NM and spent another night compliments of Sam Walton. The weather has been great with the exception of some incredible winds. Not only that, but the temperature has dropped significantly. It's probably in the 30's tonight.
