Where I stayed
'Ksan campground

We survived our drive along the Cassiar and are now traveling along the Yellowhead highway.  Ken & I made a quick stop at 'Ksan on our last trip north and were looking forward to spending a little more time here.  I had no recollection of there being a campground here and we were pleasantly surprised to find a very nice full hookup ( with wi-fi ) campground right next to the Historic Village.

The village documents the ancesteral  winter living conditions of the the Tlingit people who still  live in this area.  During the spring and summer months the Tlingit ( pronounce Klink-it ) would be out living off the land - during the winter they would come inside.  They lived in matriarichal groups with up to 70 people under one roof!

After taking the guided tour of the historic village we took a quick drive down the road to the Kispiox village.  Kispiox is a village inhabited by 'first nation' Tlingits and contains a large collection of authentic totem poles.  I  only wish that I knew how to read a Totem to be able to learn the stories that they tell!
