The drive from just south of Anchorage to Seward has got to be one of the most beautiful in the world!   In fact it has been designated a National Forest Scenic Byway, All-American Road and an Alaska Scenic Byway.  It is so stunning that we have scheduled a three  stay on our trip off the Kenai in the town of Portage so that we can take our time and explore all it has to offer!

What can I say about Seward, our home for the last four nights??  Lets see, it is known as the "Gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park" and was voted an All-American City in 2005.  Seward, much like Skagway & Valdez, was an important transporation hub during the Klondike gold rush.  The cruise ships also come here.  During our visit we only saw one and it was of the smaller variety.  The town is also a short drive from Anchorage so it is a popular weekend/vacation spot.  A bit on the touristy side but not overwhelming like Skagway.

We had a great visit to the area spending time exploring town, the Exit Glacier as well as a wildlife cruise around Resurrection Bay and the Gulf of Alaska.  The weather could have cooperated a bit more but all and all it was a very enjoyable visit to yet another beautiful part of Alaska.
