If we hadn't had our previous experience from Whitehorse to Tok along the Alaska Highway today's roadway would have been a topic of conversation.  Instead, todays roadwork & frost heaves pale in comparison.  We did however have a problem with our tow bar ( the one that connects the car to the coach..)  It is held in place with a couple pins and one of them sheered off after hitting a particularly serious frost heave. This caused one side of the hitch to become unattached and our truck  'tried to pass us'.  Ken noticed right away and we pulled over, unhooked the car and continued on our way in two seperate vehicles.

The silver lining in all this - there are actually two - is that I got to drive about 160 miles all by myself!  Something that hasn't happened in about 15 years. And, Ken managed to get the tow bar fixed at a local 'we can fix anything' shop here in Valdez for $20.  The tow bar actually looks better than it has in years ( it had a slight bend to it from a previous incident..)

We are all settled in here at Bear Paw RV Park in Valdez, the sun is shining and we've got a wildlife cruise set up for tomorrow.  And, Ken is taking me out to dinner tonight.  All and all another great day on the road!

There was actually a 3rd silver lining for Ann. She got to rock out, seriously. When we got to the campground and I went to park the car, Tom Petty and I became re-aquainted quickly and loudly!!

I on the other hand took the smoother road. A little Sinatra, a little Faith Hill and some Brooks and Dunn!!
