In looking at our map we realized that we weren't that far removed from the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library.  For some reason, and we would learn why, it's located on the campus of Texas A&M University.  The University is the second largest in the country but is, quite frankly, located a bit off the beaten track.  It's not really in a part of Texas that one would normally travel through getting from point A to point B.

Given that I have turned over this new leaf and am now much more flexible with my planning and organizing, it was a no brainer to turn to the east and head for Bryan, Texas. After all, we had no idea when we would again find ourselves in such close proximity!

What a great day we had exploring the Library.  It is a very interesting experience to walk in the footsteps of history that you have lived through.  Some things I learned?  Lets see, that #41  - that's what the locals call President George H.W. Bush, President George W. Bush is #43 - served as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, was the Chairman of the Republican National Committee and that he was the Director of the CIA.  Also, sadly, he & Barbara lost a daughter to Leukemia when she was only 3 1/2 years old.

Our experience with these Presidential Libraries has been one in which we learn about our Presidents and, despite their politicial affiliation, come away with a feeling that we would like to know them.  #41's library was no different.  Alot of effort has been put into touching on all aspects of his public service and the Presidency and Vice Presidency were not given any more attention than the other aspects of his service.

And the answer as to why the Library is located on the grounds of Texas A&M when President Bush graduated from Yale and was raised on the East coast?  He likes it here!!
