We spent a large part of our lifes living in and around the San Francisco Bay Area.  It's a beautiful part of the country and we often tell people that it's a great place to be from.  One of the things that happens when you spend so much time in a heavily populated area is you begin to think the whole country must be the same way.

Well, let me tell you that it's not.  In fact I would hazard a guess that the majority of the country lives in small towns and rural communities.  What we have discovered is that these small towns and communities have a sense of pride that is often missing in the bigger cities.  It may sound corny but people really do know their neighbors and they have a sense of pride in their homes, schools and cities.  These are things that are often missing in the larger suburbs and cities.  At least in our experience!

Today's adventure found us heading out to Denison, Texas which prides itself on being the birthplace of President Dwight D. Eisenhower.  Never mind that his family moved from here when he was about 18 months old and that he had no recollection of ever living here.  This town is very proud of the fact that the future President is a native son!   This is another thing we've discovered about small town America, they hold on to their history and are proud of whatever role they've played in it.
