We've made it to Rapid City!  On checking in at this 'members' only park the clerk commented that she was surprised that we managed to get a reservation that included the Labor Day weekend.  See, it's good to be organized!

We are able to stay here through our RPI membership.  For those of you that aren't familiar with this and how it works I'll share the 'basic's.  First, you need to buy a membership in a participating park.  These parks are located across the country and most people chose one that is close to where they live.  Ours is actually located along the Colorado River in Arizona/California.  Once you have a 'home park' you are given access to other member parks.

Now, the tricky part is that your 'non home' parks can keep out whatever number of camping sites they decide to for use by 'non-members'.  Hart Ranch, the park we are staying at has about 20 sites set aside for non-members over the holiday weekends. All the other sites are set aside for members.  So it is important to get your reservations in early.

We've found that RPI works for us and that we do actually get our monies worth out of it each year.  I'm not so sure it would be worthwhile to someone who only traveled occasionally though.  And, the memberships come in all different price ranges as well as with different rules and restrictions.  It's important to be armed with as much information as possible prior to making the leap into one of these memberships!  We are by no means experts but would be happy to try to answer questions for any of you who may be interested....
