Where I stayed
This story was related to us on our tour of the Sauza tequila factory and it answered one of Kens most pressing questions - who or how was tequila first 'discovered'. After all, who would look at the spiky blue agave plant and think, I can make a drink out of that?
The process for making tequila has actually changed little since the early days. The plants are harvested, the spikes are removed and the heart of the plant - called the pineapple - is cooked. After being softened up the pineapple is cut up and squeezed. The juice is than distilled to make tequila.
One other bit of trivia...only Tequila bottled in the town of Tequila can be called Tequila. And a visit to the 'home land' enabled Ken to remove yet one more item from his 'list'.
