It seems it has been awhile since I shared any history with you, which is very unusual for me! After all, part of the writing of this blog is to share some of the fascinating historical facts that we discover! So, here goes....
One of the things that Mexico is known for is it's Mariachi music. The state of Jalisco lays claim to being the home of this type of music and the town of Tlaquepaque claims to be the city of it's origin. French soldiers who were stationed here in the mid-19th century noted that the strolling troubadours performed primarily at weddings or mariages, hence the deviation of the word.
Besides being the home of Mariachi music Tlaquepaque now houses a pedestrian 'mall' filled with high end shops selling locally made handicrafts. These shops are mostly located in converted haciendas and some of them are absolutely stunning. Most of you know that Ken is the shopper in this relationship and it may come as a shock to you to hear that I could have easily spent all day going in and out of these shops!
