It's a little ironic that this here city of Urumqi even exists. As I appoached the city by bus, it's popped into view out of nowhere, and all of a sudden you were in a huge metropolis. The city stops just as starkly, and from any vantagepoint you can see the desert(and mountains) looming very close.

Well, here I am on the eve of my trip to Kashgar. Once in Kashgar, I'll head with a team of people to Kingata Shan for three weeks of wilderness and climbing.

We still don't know what our climbing objective will be...we're just going to check out the peaks when we get there and see how it goes. I'd really like to climb something that hasn't been climbed before, but we might make an ascent on the highest peak, Kingata Shan(6780 m.) Maybe we'll do both?

At any rate, I'll be out of touch for three weeks. Quite possibly the longest I've been out of email range EVER.

Take care. I'll send out a full report when I get back. And, family, don't worry I won't do anything stupid.
