The Dream of Waipu

Now Waipu is said 'why poo' which makes it a odd fantasy destination but today I thought of it as the promised land, a town paved with gold and pies (neither of which is really a good paving material).

You see today started (after some faffing at the hostel and a long phone call home) with 38km on track rumbling, roadwork (gravel) covered, fast moving highway one, which is not a good cycling route but in a country with few roads it was the only practical option.

So with the weather being even more bazaar than normal, it was a variation or combination of windy, raining, hot, cloudy, sunny, cold and changed about every 20mins. I cycled as quickly as I could whilst being passed by lorry's carrying everything from sheep to ice cream dreaming of Waipu where I could turn off of  quieter roads and fresher air. I felt Waipu would be the promised land and as I got hungry/cold a land of people holding out pie's & warm drinks.

As I arrived the sign said 'Welcome to Waipu a Hundred thousand welcomes' I though one would have done but it is always nice to welcomed.

The town was paved normally and unusually by NZ standards had no obvious signs of pie shops but it had a cafe and that had lasagna  and less traffic (especially in the cafe). I t also stopped raining briefly, so all in all, Waipu was pretty good.
