Wow
It's been a week of traveling in Vietnam. Nothing like I expected. After Maylasia and Thailand I thought I had seen it all. Vietnam is just crazy noisy and going 100%. The first city I arrived in was Hanoi. It was loud, smelly, bright and full of people and motorbikes. Just to get down the street you have to dodge the bikes, the vendors selling food, the motorbikes, cars and the people driving on the sidewalks. Everyone is honking their horns. Seems no one looks in the rear view mirrors while driving, you can just keep looking straight ahead. Then everyone else on the road honks their horn as they pass you. I have a small video of the traffic but have been unable to get to a computer that has the bandwidth to upload it. Sorry.
After three wild days in Hanoi, I traveled down the coast to a small city called Hoi An. This is a heritage site that has been recognize as having buildings and bridges from over 400 years ago. The town was a good location to explore the middle of Vietnam. Located really close is a much smaller town called -Hue -one of the ancient capitals from the 1500's. Hue has some interesting museums of how the ancient courts were ruled by the Kings. Including some of the clothing/dishes/furniture from this time period.
This morning I arrived in Ho Chi Min City. I spent the day discovering the city, and going to the local "Revolution Museum". This basically told the history of Vietnam from the stone age to the "American War". Interesting perspective.
Tomorrow I am off to the Mekong Delta to see the floating markets and then on Monday I change countries and enter Cambodia. Vietnam is considered head and shoulders above Cambodia in their Internet access --so it might be a while before I can get this updated
Sorry about the lack of pictures -- you will just have to wait until I can get access to a better computer.
I had the hardest time getting out of Vietnam. It all started trying to find a way out of Hai An to Ho chi Min City. I tried the train, bus and plane but all were full due to a college entrance exam being given in Ho Chi Min City. So I got a couple of days off schedule and arrived in Ho Chi Min City for a brief overnight stay before heading to Cambodia.
