Arrived in Bangkok on Friday very early (5am)in the morning via a overnight train. The train was lots of fun. Each seat folded down to create a sleeping bed, and then above the seat there was a fold down bed. We had individual little curtains and if felt like your own space. The train gently rocked you to sleep.

Still 5am is 5am, which is very early.

Bangkok is a whirlwind of activity. Our hotel is smack dab in the busy location called Kao San. Everywhere you go there are people trying to get you to buy food, clothes, watches, books -just about anything you can think of. Then the noise factor rises as the taxi, tuk-tuk ( small motorbikes with side cars) all try to get you to chose them. Just walking down the street you are overwhelmed by the smells of food, people and garbage. Plus I am trying to avoid stepping in any holes -my ankle is holding up on this trip -

Today is a great day to be in Bangkok- the King was crowned 60 years ago today. Everyone in wearing a yellow shirt. On Tuesday is the big celebration with 50 royal boats that have about 50 oarmens each. Fireworks and a special releasing of over 30,000 small linen ballons -similar to hot air ballons - are planned. Should be a blast.
