Arrived into Wellington, the capital of New Zealand on the North Island last Sunday afternoon. The ferry crossing was fine, much to Lisa's relief as we had heard horror stories about the journey. We were so lucky as the weather turned really bad on Sunday evening and the crossings were terrible. The journey took about 3 hours but the ferry was well equipped with cafes, cinema, bars etc so it flew by. Wellington is known as the Windy city and it certainly lived up to it's name.
We booked into our accommodation and took a stroll down to Cuba Street and Courtney place which is the main entertainment area, found a gorgeous little Italian Restaurant.
The following day we went to Te Papa which is the National museum of New Zealand
The next day we went to the National Archives to see the original Waitangi Agreement between the Maoris and the European settlers. Also walked around the parliament building which is like a giant beehive. That evening we went to the local pub and joined a table quiz. Most teams had 6 players on them but we decided to take them all on...Big Mistake! After coming last we found out from the bar staff that most of the teams are professional and very serious about table quizzes. We actually thought we had done quite well. Anyway we got a prize of 2 tee-shirts (both small sizes so not very useful!)
We left Wellington on Wednesday to head to the Waitomo Caves...
